July 18, 2018 - Under the right conditions, summertime hiking / backpacking in the California Sierras offers amazing scernary. With an eye on the weather forecasts, we decided to make the ascent to Mt Langley (14,026 feet). July 18, 2018 - After a few days camping at 11,000 feet, we made the ascent to Mt. Langly at 14,026 feet and had a spectacular view of Mt. Whitney, the highest point in the continental United States at 14,505 feet. While the hike was grueling the view from the peak was worth it. A perfect view of Mt. July 19, 2018 - From our base camp at 11,000 feet, we have a beautiful view of the peak we ascended to the previous day, Mt Langley at 14,026 feet. July 19, 2018 - Just one more reason why It's so important to have current information on the weather. The day after we made our ascent to Mt. Langley, morning cloud activity gave way to towering thunderheads in the afternoon. We enjoyed this view of the developing storm from the relative calm of our base camp. July 26, 2017 - The record season of precipitation in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Winter 2017 created some challenging backpacking in Summer 2017. Going cross country and traversing snowfields in late July led us to this view of Cecile Lake and the Minarets. In the middle of Summer, Cecile Lake was 80-90% frozen over. July 26, 2017 - A passing Summer storm and the record season of precipitation in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Winter 2017 created some amazing photography opportunities. Hiking above Minaret Lake provided this spectacular view of the partially frozen lake, the passing strom and Mammoth Mountain in the background.
